Weekend in Crappy Pics!

On Friday morning, I woke up to Collin screaming in my face, “Wake up! It’s Moms and Muffins day! Wake up! Wake up! I said, MOMS AND MUUUUFFFINSS!

Holy shit Oprah, put the bugle down and back the hell up.

Later that afternoon, while driving Ana to a “drop-off” birthday party (hell, yeah!), I received the following email…

After I finished pissing my pants, I gave her a buzz.

They were in the midst of considering a segment, and wanted to know if I’d like to come up to NYC on Tuesday and be on the show as part of a “moms” panel.  They were looking for funny moms that “tell it like it is”.  A little voice in my head said “Oh, you’ll ‘tell it like it is’ alright, and this will end with you writing personal apology letters to all of your friends & family.” But I told that little voice to shut up, this was Bethenny!

You guys would have been so proud, I played it totally cool on the phone with phrases like “That sounds great”, “Sure, Id love to”, and “No problemo” (ok, not so proud of that last phrase).

I’m honestly not sure how I managed to talk AND hold down my vomit.

I was so excited at the idea of meeting Bethenny!  I was equally excited to spend a night in a hotel alone, not to mention someone else doing my hair and makeup the next morning!  I was kinda hoping they’d have someone to shave my legs for me too, but I wasn’t sure how to ask.

Sadly, I received an email later that day that the segment had been cut. But the producer said she hoped to keep in touch and work with me in the future! You know what that means?! I have more time to lose those damn 15 pounds before the camera adds 10!  Wait…do you think they say that to everyone? Nah.

I’m totally sending Bethenny a Beaver Baby.

On Saturday, we went to our neighborhood Pig Roast. But before leaving the house, I explained to the kids that we wouldn’t be eating the pig because its whole body (with head) would be on display. “It’s so sad and barbaric!” I cried.  Then I explained the definition of a hypocrite as I finished my Bacon, Egg, & Cheese sandwich with a side of ham.  If I’m anything, it’s self-aware.

The Pig Roast is always a great time.  There’s a moonbounce, music, food, drinks, games, face painting…

Some things change while others stay the same.

My little girl is growing up…to be deceitful.

The “Wrecking Ball” thingamajig was new this year.  When I first saw it, I thought it looked pretty dangerous…

but 3 glasses of Chardonnay & 20 sugar cookies later, here we were…

She was scrappy but I still managed to take her down.

On Sunday, we took Collin to Flag football practice.  If you’ve read the last two “Weekend in Crappy Pics”, you know that Ana has attached herself like a “parasite” to a “host” family during these practices…like a tick to a dog…or a tapeworm to intestines. Who knows how they think of her.

When we arrived yesterday, I saw Ana’s other mother sitting across the field, under a tree.  She must have sensed us heading her way because she looked up, and when our eyes met, I immediately recognized the survivalist flight instinct (I see it in the mirror everyday).

“Shhh, Ana. Move veerrry slowly, we don’t want to scare her.”

The phrase ‘It’s more afraid of us than we are of it’ was probably never more appropriate.

Not one to listen, Ana started running full force across the field, arms flailing, lungs screaming.  She reminded me of one those reunions shows, where both parties run towards each other, ready to slam into an emotional embrace, only Ana’s family ran behind a tree and completely disappeared. DISAPPEARED! POOF! How? I need to learn that trick.

I had to explain to her that they didn’t want her anymore and that it probably had something to do with her torturing their dog, Grumbles. She was a little hurt and a lot pissed but she calmed down by pulling out her My Little Pony and combing its hair with my new toothbrush.

On the way back to the car, she pulled on my arm and whispered “Look mom, a little pet is sleeping. Shhh. Can we take a picture of him? He’s so cute!”

What is that?

upon closer inspection…

A Dead Rat

And so the rest of the day was spent talking about the “sleeping” rat and why he might be so tired.

The Weekend in Crappy Pics

On Friday, the kids and I jumped in the car and headed to the Museum of Natural History! I can’t really explain it, but we ended up at Petco instead…buying a hamster. No one was more surprised than me, except maybe the hamster.

Ana kept calling him a guinea pig. I think that made him a little nervous about our hamster knowledge and the level of care that he’d receive.

Now here’s a little tip for Petco: If you’re selling an animal that requires tiny blocks of wood in its cage because “it’s a chewer”, how about you not send it home in a thin cardboard box?

There was a lot of screaming on that car ride…probably not the best transition for Blaze. Yes, Collin named him Blaze. I want to Photoshop him riding a chariot and wearing gladiator gear with the phrase “In a Blaze of Gory!” written underneath. I’d totally make that my LinkedIn profile pic.

On Saturday, I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill for 4 whole miles!

I’m relatively new to running, but with the help of some awesome music, I was really getting into it. In fact, I was really jamming out to the Pussycat Dolls’ “Don’t cha” song:
Don’t cha wish your girlfriend was hot like me? Don’t cha wish your girlfriend was a freak like me? Don’t cha?
And as I felt my ass jiggling, the thought occurred to me “Shit, I’m the girlfriend”. I then skipped over to Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” to soothe my wounds.

Later that night, around cocktail hour, I sat on our deck with a martini in hand, crossed my legs, and saw something that reminded me of this poignant quote:

Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. – Winston Churchill

My Leg

I took a few moments to honor the little guy’s survival journey…then I plucked him.

On Sunday, I went running again.

Brian’s suspicious about all this exercise. He thinks I’m full of bullshit and that I’m either cheating on him or secretly shopping. Given the prickliness of my legs, he’s leaning towards shopping.

Sunday night, I attended a summer camp meeting. That’s right, all next week I’ll be volunteering my services at a summer camp organized by members of my neighborhood. It’s a great cause as all the proceeds go towards pancreatic cancer research. This ain’t no Camp Cheapo, guys- these chicks are organized!

In an attempt to put distance between myself and my children (who will be participating) I asked to be given kitchen duty, preparing snacks and meals for the campers. When I told Brian this he said, “Are you really qualified for that?” My response, “Oh, pah-leez, I have a PH freakin D in chicken nugget preparation and PB&J assembly.” But between you and me, I’m a little nervous about the mac & cheese.

I’ll let you guys know how it goes.

How was your weekend?

The Weekend through Crappy Pics

Friday

I had eyelash extensions applied! That’s right kids, this is my birthday week so I wanted to do it up all fancy-like.

BOOM!

“When I blink, I want it to look like a million tiny spiders are doing ‘the wave’.” – One Classy Motha

By the way, before you start talking smack about me, my nails look like shit and I haven’t shaved my legs in a week, so I can’t be all that high maintenance.

Surprisingly, the kids were great and kept relatively quiet for the whole 1 hour appointment. It’s probably because I promised them a picnic in the park afterwards…without ever once mentioning that the food I bought was organic and vegan approved.

Unfortunately for him, I’m lazy and the ATM happened to be next to the health food store.

Saturday

I practiced Parasite Parenting at the neighborhood pool. (Parasite Parenting: Weaseling your kids into another family’s fun while you relax)

Sunday

This happened:

My poor baby girl woke up with a 101 degree fever (probably from that damn Host Family). Thank goodness it turned out to be the “I just want to lay in your arms and rest” fever and not the “I think I’m going to vomit all over your face” fever.

So I used the unexpected downtime to apply for an awesome writing job:

Dear Mr. Wallace,

I’m very interested in the Freelance Copywriter position available at XYZ (name protected so you don’t steal my job). When I read that you were looking for someone who is social media savvy, loves XYZ, has basic HTML experience, and is extremely professional, I almost crapped my pants! This job is right up my margarita soaked alley!

As the creator, editor, writer, and publisher of www.oneclassymotha.com, I meet all of your requirements and I can do them while wiping someone else’s ass. Now THAT’S multi-tasking.

I understand that you’re offering an hourly pay rate, and I expect that it’s probably pretty low. That’s ok, Mr. Wallace, money isn’t everything. Though, I would like to make enough to pay cash for my 3-legged dog’s anal gland surgery rather than taking out a loan. The last encounter with my bank, regarding their 2012 Community Pet Contest, was extremely humiliating. In my defense, the registration packet never indicated there wasn’t a talent portion…and besides, who doesn’t love Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” played with musical urine glasses? (true-ish story)

Poor guy, it took him all day to fill them.

I’ve attached my resume and a sample of my writing for you to read at your leisure, preferably while drinking an alcoholic beverage (it might make you just loosey goosey enough to actually offer me the job).

Ok then, I’ll be desperately waiting to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Kim

The Weekend through Crappy Pics

About a month ago, I got a “I need to have a hammock” bug up my ass. So I bought one at a yard sale for $10.  It wasn’t until this Saturday that the bug came out of my ass and said, “Listen Bitch, you need to hang that damn hammock!”  So off to the hardware store I went.

After selecting chains, hooks, and those things that mountain climbers use, I took everything to the counter.  The register guy rang it all up (it cost more than the hammock itself) and said “Do you need a bag for that?”  I don’t know about you, but when a cashier says “Do you need a bag for that?” I hear, “You DON”T need a bag for that.  And if you ask for one, you’re a lazy Earth-killer that probably pours Clorox bleach and chemical fertilizer down your kitchen drain.”

“Oh, no.  I have plenty of room in my purse for heavy duty chains.  In fact, I can use them to secure my hemp wallet and eco-friendly tampons.”

Then we went to the grocery store, where I had to put the chains on the conveyor belt to get my wallet out.  And Ana says to the clerk, “We’re going to hang-a-monk”

Ha…ha…ha…kids say the darnest things…that’ll get you arrested.

Later that night, we went out to a nice dinner (still haven’t hung the hammock).

And I made the mistake of taking Ana to the bathroom with me.

As I’m in the stall, I hear her say, “What’s this do?”  Then this happens…

*This is a reenactment as I’m not in the habit of taking my camera to the bathroom.

On Sunday, I decided I HAD to hang the hammock

I call this pic “Shit’s About to Get Real”…or “A Badass Lives Here”, I haven’t decided yet.

and then I HUNG IT! and it was TOO TAUNT! son of a bitch.

Now Ana uses it as a swing.

Bright side:  I can relax in a lawn chair while she swings on the monk I hung.

How was your weekend?
